STANDISH, Maine — A woman was killed Monday when she was hit by a car while walking on a road in Standish.

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office and Standish Fire and Rescue responded to a crash involving a pedestrian at about noon Monday. The accident took place on Whites Bridge Road near Pond Road in Standish, according to a release from the sheriff's office.

Nicholas Breed, 20, of Topsham was driving west on Whites Bridge Road in his 2015 Toyota Corolla when his car veered off the road and hit Eileen Garroway, 69, of Standish. 

Garroway died at the scene of the accident, deputies said.

The Cumberland County Accident Reconstruction Unit is continuing to investigate the crash.
