EAST BALDWIN (NEWS CENTER Maine) — Crews responded Monday night to a two-car home garage fire in East Baldwin caused by a lightning strike.
The two-alarm fire at 28 Greenwood Acres Rd. began around 7:15 p.m., a dispatcher said.
Officials on scene said lightning struck nearby, igniting an electrical panel in the garage. They said the flames were put out quickly.
A dispatcher who confirmed initial reports of the fire said lightning had hit the garage, which may have housed as many as 70 motorcycles. Officials later said that due to poor cell service the report taken by phone by the dispatcher was likely misinterpreted and there was only one motorcycle inside.
