OLD TOWN (NEWS CENTER Maine) -- Three people are safe after the car they were in Wednesday plummeted into the Stillwater River.
Emergency crews responded to College Avenue Extension in Old Town after reports of a vehicle in the water with three people trapped inside.
Scott Wilcox, public safety director for Old Town's police and fire departments, said one person got out of the car on their own and two others were pulled out by crews.
Wilcox said the hardest part of the rescue was to stabilize the car so that crews could safely remove the top of the car to pull out the two people trapped inside.
All three people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, Wilcox said.
The cause of the crash is still being investigated.
Crews from the Orono Fire Department and the Maine Warden Service assisted Old Town's fire and police departments with the rescue.
