PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The first big snowfall of the year is making its way to Maine. Officials at Portland Public Works said they have prepared for this forecast since the end of last winter.
Forty-five to 50 plow trucks will be on the streets once the first snowflake hits. Public works plans on starting with salt and sand before putting the plows out. With snowfall predictions expected to span 20 hours, operators will be plowing around-the-clock during the storm.
The City of Portland is planning to make an announcement on its parking ban late Saturday morning. Public work officials also suggest taking it easy on the roads and to give yourself some extra time to get where you need to be.
