SANFORD (NEWS CENTER Maine) -- In the course of being held captive for hours in Sanford, a man endured a beating and stabbing that put his life at risk.

Police identified the kidnappers as 25-year-old Shantel Rodriquez, 26-year-old Dylan Austin and 22-year-old Cody Boudreau. All three live in Sanford.

Police said the three of them sprang on the 28-year-old victim after he was lured by an acquaintance to an abandoned apartment on January 11. Hours passed as he was beaten and coerced to call for money in exchange for his release.

When he wasn't set free, police said the victim decided to bolt out of fear he'd be killed if he stayed. But he didn't get far before he was tackled and stabbed with a knife. He eventually ended up in a snowbank where he was found by a neighbor who alerted police. Emergency crews took him to Maine Medical Center in Portland with injuries police described as life threatening.

Local police worked with the State Police Major Crimes Unit and Maine Drug Enforcement Agency to build a case over the next few weeks by executing search warrants and interviewing witnesses.

The first arrest came on Feb. 1 when a York County Sheriff's deputy cornered Austin in Acton during a traffic stop. Police met up with Rodriquez the next day on Riverside Ave. in Sanford and arrested her. The day after that, Boudreau turned himself in at the York County Jail.

The arrest warrants filed against Austin, Rodriguez and Boudreau carry charges of kidnapping and aggravated assault. Their bail is set at $10,000. A court date for all three of them is set for Monday.
