PORTER, Maine (NEWS CENTER) — Wardens recovered the body of a missing Porter man Thursday afternoon in Plain Pond.

The family of 53-year-old Duane Day Sr. reported him missing just after 9 a.m. that morning. They told wardens he had left to go hornpout fishing at 6 p.m. the night before and was expected back in three hours.

When his family never heard from Day on Thursday, they went to Plain Pond, which is located in Porter, and found his truck and a capsized flat bottom boat.

Wardens responded and found the boat with no motor about 75 feet from shore, heavily obscured by vegetation. Day was then located beneath the boat around 2 p.m. in nine feet of water.

It is unknown how Day entered into the water and died. Two lifejackets were found with the boat, however, Day was not wearing one.

The incident was still under investigation as of Thursday.
