A couple from Orneville fled state and local law enforcement Friday before being caught and charged by Bangor police for the second time in 24 hours.

Bangor Police Sgt. Wade Betters said his department got a report at about 11 a.m. Friday of a couple in a black pickup engaging in illegal drug activity in the parking lot of a local retail center.

Responding officers learned the truck in which the man and woman were inside was actually stolen, Sgt. Better said, connected to a case earlier in the week in Lagrange being handled by Maine State Police.

Betters said the truck left the area before officers arrived. It was located about 15 minutes later and stopped by an officer at the corner of Broadway and Husson Avenue, but suddenly sped off and disappeared behind Ross Manor.

Officers found the truck idling and abandoned.

State police and game wardens soon joined Bangor officers' search of the area as it was suspected the couple fled on foot into the woods.

Minutes later, troopers spotted the woman as she attempted to hitchhike on Broadway, police said. Kayla Heasely, 27, was taken into custody.

Heasely and Medeiros were both charged with violation of conditions of release and refusing to submit to arrest, both class E, and taken to Penobscot County Jail in Bangor.

Medeiros, the driver, was additionally charged with eluding an officer class C. Heasley had an outstanding warrant charging FTA-burglary and theft.

Bangor police arrested the same couple on Thursday at about 1:30 p.m. and charged them with violation of condition of release. In addition, Medeiros was charged with drug possession and Heasely was charged with theft.
