Man pleads 'not guilty' for murder of couple in truck fire

John De St. Croix, 25, faces two counts of murder and one count of arson.

BANGOR (NEWS CENTER Maine) -- The man charged in late March with the murder of a couple found dead inside a burned-out box truck in Bangor pleaded not guilty Tuesday.

John De St. Croix, 25, faces two counts of murder and one count of arson for allegedly setting fire to a truck parked behind the Penobscot Plaza on March 28.

The bodies of 36-year-old Desiree York and 43-year-old Michael Bridges were found by fire crews who responded to the blaze.

Friends of the victims told NEWS CENTER Maine York and Bridges were homeless and likely sought shelter there.

De St. Croix was arrested just days later on March 30. He is currently being held at Penobscot County Jail without bail.

A trial date has been set for March 25, 2019.
