BANGOR (NEWS CENTER Maine) -- Cerahelix has found the wave of the future in membranes.

In its laboratory in Orono, chemical scientists and engineers are working to make the invention of Dr. Susan MacKay into a large-scale solution to purify dirty water that is safe enough to drink.

According to Water.org, nearly 10% of the world's population has no access to clean drinking water. In 2015, the World Economic Forum listed water scarcity as the number one risk to the world in the next decade.
