There are certain musicians that have mastery of their instrument to an extent that it becomes an extension of them. Watching Charlie Parker blow bop with effortless ease, a look in his eyes that appears like he's doing his taxes while he's inventing musical notations is mind-blowing. Watching Lauren Rioux fly her bow across her fiddle letting drip single notes at 60 beats per minute can bring any heart to racing. She's been doing this for decades. And the joy she receives she gives back. She's a force to behold.
For many years shes curated the winter themed event called Yulegrass. That was put on hold a few years back, but due to demand & perhaps a personal ache to make it happen, Rioux has put together a new ensemble, Lauren Rioux & The Stocking Stuffers. It is a stocking full of wonderful surprises. Brittany Haas (from Live From Here & Dave Rawlings Machine) Joe K. Walsh, & Yann Falquet, & special guest Claire Scott, just to drop a few names, will fill out this merriment of fiddling mayhem. They will rearrange your favorite holiday songs and fill your hearts with the holiday hustle & bustle.
They are playing two shows on December 16th at One Longfellow Square in Portland. A mattinee at 2pm and another show to follow at 7pm.
