These Maine women take their tackling seriously on the football field

If you've never heard of the Women's Football Alliance, allow team Maine Mayhem to educate you. Warning: you might get hurt.

(NEWS CENTER Maine) -- If you are a woman, even if you are an athlete, it is likely you’ve not thought about playing football. But the Maine Mayhem wants to change your mind. “If you are an athlete, there’s a place for you on the football field – we’ll find a position that you will succeed in,” says Alicia Jeffords, President and CEO of the team.

The Mayhem holds their tryouts throughout the Fall, and new recruits are picked after each of four tryouts. The team then holds practices, and continues their conditioning, through the winter – ready to launch their season in April. They compete in the Women’s Football Alliance, or WFA, which means they travel mostly throughout New England to meet their competitors.
