L.L.Bean's Northern Lights Celebration opens for season

L.L. Bean has been known to get into the holiday spirit and this year they are offering something new. Five displays called The Northern Lights Celebration set up outside of their Freeport flagship store.

FREEPORT, Maine (NEWS CENTER) — L.L.Bean will be lighting up the outside of their Freeport flagship store for their Northern Lights Celebration. They usually have a Christmas tree as part of the event but are doing things a bit different this year.

There are five different displays set up at the Freeport location for the celebration. A night sky dome, reindeer barn, giant snow globe, train village and discovery forest. The forest was set up by Gabriel DiGristina and other workers from New Bridge Marketing Group. Around 700 trees that took more than a week to set up.

"We designed it to make paths and those paths take you to different experiences throughout," DiGristina said.

L.L.Bean spent three months planning the displays of the Northern Lights Celebration. According to senior public relations representative Eric C Smith, they wanted something new and exciting from years past.

"We've tried a lot of different components through out the years," Smith said. "It's always a holiday favorite, but we just wanted to do something entirely different this year, so it's been at the drawing board for a few months."

The displays will be open every weekday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. until Dec. 31. The reindeer barn with Santa Clause will be open on weekends from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
