WHERE: Strand Theatre, Rockland

HOW MUCH: $15 in advance, $18 day of show.

WHY GO: Here’s what I said about the show on Yee Haw and Ho Ho Ho! Honky tonk, western swing, rockabilly and country act The Sweetback Sisters are coming to Maine and will show you a rip-roarin' good time in Rockland. With a show that's packed with vaudevillian theatrics that are a throwback to 50s and 60s TV variety shows, this show will kick your holidays into high gear. There will be trivia, prizes and holiday tunes galore and if you're rusty on lyrics, fear not, they'll have songbooks. Singers Emily Miller and Zara Bode and the rest of the band can't wait to infuse your holidays with more fun than you can shake a candy cane at!

WHAT: Darlingside with opener Henry Jamison

WHEN: 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8

WHERE: Port City Music Hall

HOW MUCH: $15 in advance, $18 day of show, 18-plus show

WHY GO: Darlingside is a Boston-based indie-folk act and their new album “Extralife” is dreamy and gorgeous with rich harmonies and a real 60s folk feel. Also, Burlington, folk-pop singer-songwriter Henry Jamison is great too.

CLIP: Here’s the “Extralife” title track from their performance at last summer’s Newport Folk Festival. {IMPORTANT NOTE : fast forward to the one minute, four second mark which is when the vocals start)

WHY GO: This is the third year for this show and it’s my favorite holiday related event of the year. A 19 piece big band with two sensational vocalist and a ton of special guests singing holiday songs! Plus they create a retro throwback living room scene reminiscent of holiday variety shows of the 50s and 60s. Wonderful show for the whole family.
