Freeport dog's quirkiness goes viral on YouTube

Since Jody Hartman posted a video to YouTube in 2014 of his yellow lab, Stella, she's received more than 7 million views.

FREEPORT, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A viral yellow lab in Freeport has made a name for herself on YouTube.

Stella enjoys playing fetch and chasing bubbles with her owner, Jody Hartman. She's a typical man's best friend in many ways, but her uniqueness comes out when she's tired. At the end of every fetch session she'll lie down with all four legs stretched out. It's a quirkiness that Hartman decided to record and post on YouTube. Two years later she's received more than seven million views.

"It got to the top of YouTube. Number one video in the world. It bumped down the Katy Perry video, the Disney movie Into The Woods. It just was mind blowing," said Hartman.

Some viewers commented saying that they thought Stella might have a condition called Exercise Induced Collapse, but a blood test at the veterinarian's office ruled that out. Leading to the non-medical conclusion that the 3-year-old lab is just quirky. She's gotten used to the cameras and go pros that capture her everyday behavior for her online followers. She's never let the fame get to her though.

"That's kind of the best part is that with a dog it doesn't go to her head at all," said Hartman.
