NORWAY, Maine (NEWS CENTER Maine) -- A group of cyclists from western Maine are getting ready for their biggest race yet.
The ten members of the TruStrength cycling team all met at the same gym in western Maine. They were all looking for an excuse to travel to Iceland, so when they found out about the 2018 Wow Cyclothon happening there, they jumped at the opportunity.
"That was definitely the selling point," said Katie Bonawitz. "When somebody says, hey you want to do a bike race? I don't' know maybe, but when somebody says, hey you want to go to Iceland? Yes definitely."
The Wow Cyclothon will be the longest race the team has done, traveling 850 miles around the perimeter of Iceland. It's also the team's first relay style race. Each rider will have 20 minutes of intensity before passing on the responsibilities to the next team-mate.
"I think that down the line, should we decide to keep doing this our goals will definitely change," said Bonawitz. "We're going to learn a lot."
The True Strength Cycling team will start the race in Reykjavik, Iceland on June 27th and race until the 30th.
