What do George and Barbara Bush, IBM and Museum L-A all have in common?
In one way or another they have all been inspired by the Bates Bedspread. If you're of a certain ago, you may remember being given a Bates Bedspread as a gift. If so, you're not alone. They were frequent gifts from First Families for decades.
They're still for sale, but not in the numbers that were being churned out at the mill in Lewiston in the 1940s.
An exhibit at Museum L-A covers the surprisingly fascinating history of the humble object.
