Cocktails are often a science experiment at Vena's Fizz House

Steve and Johanna Corman show us two versions of a holiday-themed cocktail, The Tiny Tim Toddy.

A stop at Vena's Fizz House in Portland is always an experience. Owners Steve and Johanna Corman look at mixed drinks - alcoholic or not - as experiments.

Steve once taught science, and he incorporates a lot of that into his mixes behind the bar. We stopped by for a holiday cocktail, The Tiny Tim Toddy - made hot and cold.

Ingredients:

2 oz Sebago Lake Distillery Original Rum

.75 oz Royal Rose Cardamom-Clove simple syrup

1 oz squeezed lime juice

2 drops cardamom bitters

4 drops Dashfire Old Fashioned bitters

For a cold toddy:

Shake with ice. Strain into a rocks glass, and add an ounce of seltzer. Stir.

Add a large hunk of ice, garnish with lime wedge & mint.

For a hot toddy:

Add all ingredients into a pan, careful not to boil the alcohol. Once warm, pour into your favorite mug and garnish with an orange slice or some nutmeg.
