A waterfront that works

Dave Wade tells the history of a changing waterfront through the images he creates.

Dave Wade has been a commercial photographer for decades. He has also created a number of personal projects. He has one on display now at the Merrill Memorial Library in Yarmouth. He's been working on this for decades. It is a collection of imagery about the working waterfront. Fisherman piling lobster traps into the grey-white sky. The black lines of the cages, contrast to the white fingers of the fisherman. Flying lobsters thrown back into the ink of the sea from which they came. This is a day in the life of men & women on the seas and dependent on making a living working from the waterfront. It's what built the city, and in Dave's imagery you can see the attention change. What happens next? The chapters changed. It isn't the toil of labor and sweat that counters the lapping waves of the oceans tough to land. It is now the hustle and the bustle of tourists buying trinkets that mimic the history of the changed landscape.

But don't take my word for it. Dave Wade's show at Merrill Memorial Library is on display until June 20.
