BRUNSWICK, Maine — You may be familiar with a bit of timeless writing advice from “The Elements of Style”: Omit needless words. That’s it. Three words, five syllables, and writing wisdom for a lifetime.
It came to mind as I was looking at the Facebook page for Sonic Libido, a band out of Brunswick. The band’s description of itself is concise. “We play a unique blend of ska, hard rock, punk and reggae,” it says. “High energy, dynamic and badass. A five piece, no-horns, some-nonsense ska band.” So there you have it—lean writing that tells you just what Sonic Libido delivers. I don’t know if anyone in the band is a student of “The Elements of Style,” but the message got through: Omit needless words.
