FRANKFORT, Maine — Two people appeared to be seriously injured Monday after their two vehicles collided along Route 1A in Waldo County, the sheriff's office said.

Reports of the two-vehicle crash came in at about 1 p.m. Deputies responded along with Frankfort and West Frankfort's fire departments.

Deputies' investigation showed a car driven by Amy Adriance, 40, of Winterport, was traveling north on Route 1A when she decided to pass a tractor trailer, the sheriff's office said. Adriance's vehicle then drifted off the right side of the ride, was overcorrected and crossed the center line.

Adriance's car went into oncoming traffic and struck a southbound pickup truck driven by Wendy Fowler, 51, of Belfast, the investigation showed.

Both drivers were taken to a Bangor hospital with what appeared to be serious but non-life threatening injuries, the sheriff's office said.

The vehicles were considered a total loss.
