No threat to Central Maine Medical Center, hospital says

According to NEWS CENTER Maine's source, a caller threatened to shoot up the hospital. At 5 p.m., the hospital made a statement saying the threat is not credible

LEWISTON, Maine — Central Maine Medical Center (CMMC) went into lockdown Tuesday morning after the hospital received what was believed to be a credible threat.

Tuesday afternoon Central Maine Medical Center said the call from a person threatening to shoot up the hospital is no longer credible, after an investigation with the Lewiston Police Department. Police say though the investigation is ongoing, they have determined there to be no credible or imminent threat to the safety of employees or patients at the hospital.

The lockdown was lifted at approximately 4 p.m. Officials say the hospital will be back to normal operations on Wednesday morning.

"Central Maine Medical Center Security and the Lewiston Police Department take the safety of the staff and patients seriously and felt it would be best from the on-set to take every precaution and safeguard necessary; leading to the original lock-down," the Lewiston Police Department said in a release.

Lewiston Police are still investigating and are following up on several leads.
