AUGUSTA, Maine — On Monday, seven of Maine’s paramedics, EMT’s, and ambulance attendants will be honored during the annual Emergency Medical Services awards.This year’s theme is “EMS Strong: Beyond the Call”
Amanda Chretien, an EMT in Newport will receive the Merit Award.
"Sometimes this job is like an unthankful job. We just do what we do," she said. "I love it and to see that other people in the community recommended me for an award like this means a whole bunch. the job Itself I love. Like this is my community, this community means the world to me."
The award ceremony will be at 2:30 p.m. on Monday in the Hall of Flags at the Maine State House. Following the awards, there will be a brief wreath placing and reading of the EMS Honor Roll.
Other awards are:
Distinguished Service Award - Evan Sisley, Paramedic, Houston, Texas. A Navy corpsman who cared for President George H.W. Bush for five years prior to his death
Excellence in EMS – For contribution to the EMS system at the regional and/or state level and demonstrated involvement and significant contributions in one or more areas of EMS.
Sylvia Hull, Paramedic, Sabattus
Scott Smith, RN, Paramedic, Hampden
Basil Mahaney, Paramedic, Northeast Harbor
EMS Lifetime Achievement Awards – For involvement with EMS in Maine for at least 10 years, consistently performing above and beyond expectations in system development, patient care, service involvement, and/or community involvement.
Kevin Curry, Paramedic, Union
Merit Award – For contribution to the EMS system at the local or regional level in one or more areas of EMS.
Cassandra Clark, Paramedic, Livermore Falls

HeartSafe Community designation – Durham Fire & Rescue
