Traffic information for Cpl. Cole Memorial Service on May 7

(NEWS CENTER Maine)-- Traffic in Somerset and Penobscot Counties could be affected on Monday due to the events surrounding Cpl. Eugene Cole's Memorial Ceremony.

Police say they don’t expect any road closures for the funeral procession part but there could be slight delays.

The route is as follows.

The procession is expected to leave the Smart & Edwards Funeral Home around 10am to Madison Ave (Rt 201).

Then it will turn left on to Water Street (Rt 2) in Downtown Skowhegan heading out of town on Rt 2 through Canaan and Palmyra to Newport.

In Newport, the procession will pick up I-95 heading to Bangor.

Once in Bangor, it will merge on to 395 to Main Street and the Cross Insurance Center.

The Bangor Police Department put out the following information regarding city traffic and road closures once the procession arrives in Bangor on Monday.

Buck Street will be closed from Main Street to Third Street at 7:30 am.

Buck Street MAY be closed from Third Street to Seventh Street at 10:00 am.

Bass Park Boulevard will be closed at 7:30 am.

Main Street (in front of the Cross Insurance Center) will be briefly closed at approximately 11:00 am – traffic will be redirected via a detour.

Please expect heavy traffic on Main Street near the Cross Insurance Center and I-395 between the hours of 8:00a and 11:00a & 2:30p to 4:00p – expect delays, an increased pedestrian traffic and frequent stoppage of traffic during the two noted time periods. Please consider an alternate route.

Overnight parking will not be permitted at Bass Park or Cross Insurance Center from Sunday, May, 6 to Monday, May 7.
