SOUTH BERWICK (NEWS CENTER Maine) — Patients dealing with Parkinson's disease are coming together to raise money for research to find a cure.
Michelle RIchards, Gary Parmley and Ralph Hyson all have Parkinson's.
Parkinson's usually affects people in their 60s. Richards was diagnosed when she was 41.
At first, her symptoms were slight but have gotten progressively worse over time. She now relies on medication to control her tremors.
All three patients started a nonprofit called Putts Fore PD. The organization is holding a golf fundraiser this Sunday, June 24 at The Links at Outlook golf course in Berwick. The proceeds will go to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
"The prognosis isn't good," said Richards. "We have to find a cure and they are close with this like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's."
