Suspects on the run after stabbing man in his Buckfield home

Police say Neil and Selena Canney should be considered armed and dangerous. They were last seen in the Bethel area.

BUCKFIELD, Maine — Police are on the lookout for two armed and dangerous people they say attacked a man in Buckfield.

Investigators say the two people, Neil Roy Canney, 52, of Green and Hartford, Maine, and his niece, Selena Canney, 49, of Hartford, entered the home of Edwin Bennett, 67, on Bennett Road in Buckfield.

The two allegedly forced Bennett at gunpoint into a part of his home where they beat and stabbed him, police say.

Bennett escaped to a neighbor's who called police.

Neil and Selena Canney took off in a gray SUV.

They were last seen in Bethel around 4 a.m. Tuesday.

Police say they should be considered armed and dangerous. If you see them you should immediately call police.

The victim, Edwin Bennett, was treated at Maine Medical Center and released Tuesday evening.

Police have not said what the motive was in the attack.

Deputies were assisted by The Maine Wardens Service, Maine State Police, and Paris Police Department.
