BANGOR, Maine — Bangor Savings Bank cut the ribbon Monday at the grand opening of its new campus building overlooking the Penobscot River. The new building and a parking garage went up in just 14 months right next Bangor Savings' administrative headquarters.

Bangor Savings Bank employs more than 950 workers in Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts, and nearly 400 of them work out of the Bangor waterfront campus.

The new building includes 80 geothermal wells, and 1,400 solar panels on top of the parking garage.

President and CEO Robert Montgomery-Rice says this was an important step for the company to keep it in Bangor and look toward the future.

"We were spread out across several buildings in the city, it was inefficient, and we were out of space. Locating on the waterfront made sense, we got our start along this river, our roots are here," Montgomery-Rice said in a statement. "Our new campus will accommodate growth, with space for 500 employees."

The bank was founded in 1852 and currently has 58 branches in Maine and New Hampshire.
