Career fair to be held at Bangor Mall on Thursday, April 21

More than 70 employers are set to be at the Bangor Mall, offering hundreds of opportunities for job seekers.

BANGOR, Maine — Maine’s unemployment rate continues to decline. According to the Maine Department of Labor, 3.6% of Mainers didn’t have a job in March. That’s the lowest since June 2019, when the state's unemployment rate dipped to 2.6%.

Despite the positive trend, the Maine Department of Labor is holding a hiring event to try and help more folks find work.

On Thursday, the Bangor Mall will be the location of a three-hour career fair.

Maine Department of Labor Career Center Consultant Lucio Gonzalez told NEWS CENTER Maine the event is a great opportunity for job seekers to meet face-to-face with prospective employers, ask questions, and make real, personalized connections.

"Any person that is looking for a new career opportunity, whether you are a seasoned job seeker, maybe you're somebody that’s had lots of experience and you’re looking for something new outside of your current field of employment, or whether you’re an individual who is just getting started and maybe you're not sure exactly where to go, we want you to know that any individual is welcomed," Gonzalez said.

Thursday's career fair will feature more than 70 employers offering hundreds of positions. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and organizers encourage people to bring a resume and a cover letter.

"The main thing to bring in is a curiosity mindset," Gonzalez said. "Employers are there to answer any and all questions you might have."
