BANGOR, Maine — A Bangor area eighth-grader built a magnificently crafted replica of Bangor City Hall and gifted it to the city Wednesday.

The city said it took Beckett Mundell-Wood, a student at Williams S. Cohen School, about a month and 2,019 pieces to design and build the model.

"We are finding the perfect spot for it here in the real City Hall, so keep your eyes peeled," the city said in a post on Facebook, calling it a "very special gift."

This isn't Beckett's first Lego creation. The city said he's previously created mini versions of his own middles school and the Bangor Opera House.

After the Great Fire of 1911, an urban renewal project eventually led to the 1969 destruction of Bangor's old city hall, located at the corner of Hammond and Columbia streets. The lot was later turned into a two-level parking garage.

Across the Kenduskeag Stream, a federal building at Harlow and Center streets, built in 1912, was turned into the new Bangor City Hall.
