Damariscotta Pumpkinfest Regatta attracts thousands to the town

Pumpkinfest Regatta is always a delight for thousands
It's hard to steer a giant pumpkin.

Damariscotta, ME (NEWS CENTER) --

The Damariscotta Pumpkinfest is still going strong after nine years. On Columbus Day thousands crowd the cove to see the regatta, which is the highlight of ten days of activities.

The event was begun to fill a void in the fall season. Columbus Day is a day off for many and the Damariscotta Pumpkinfest Regatta has become the big event of the day.

The regatta features paddling and motorized races. Entrants compete in huge carved-out pumpkins which, with rounded bottoms, are less than sea-worthy.

It is a delightful festival to take in.
