The Sweetser Farm 1812

A visit to a six-generation Maine farm

Since 1812, the Sweetsers have been farming in the center of Cumberland.

The primary crop now is apples which people can stop and buy at the family farm stand on the Blanchard Road.

Greg Sweetser grew up there.  Although he spent much of his adult life at Saddleback Ski Area where he served as President before he moved back home in 1996 and fixed up the family farm.

"We've been here since before Cumberland was a town and Maine was a state," Sweetser told NEWSCENTER Maine.

As the head of the Ski Maine Association, he is responsible for promoting croos-country, Alpine and Nordic skiing as well as snowboarding.

"We consider anything that goes down the hill or ski trail 'skiing'," he joked.
