Biddeford woman gives the Sox "savage" social media

Biddeford native Kelsey Doherty manages Red Sox social media, giving the team its virtual voice

BOSTON (NEWSCENTER MAINE) -- Most New Englanders love the Red Sox, but the two million who "like" them on Twitter have an idea of what Kelsey Doherty's job is all about.

The Biddeford High and Emerson College grad manages social media for one of the most popular teams in baseball. When Mookie homers, she tweets. When the Sox do a home run dance, she posts on Instagram.

Thirty-five thousand might attend a Red Sox game at Fenway. However, two million are following on social media.

Her favorite part of the job is interacting with fans. "You get to help shape the voice of the organization," she told NEWSCENTER Maine. "You get to tell stories about the team, about the individual players, about the season and that's a lot of fun."

Having a job that combines social media with Red Sox baseball is the dream of many New England millennials.

Her favorite response from fans? "I love it when someone tweets, '@Red Sox --you're savage!"

Certainly, their social media numbers are savage and the envy of much of the baseball world.
