BRIDGTON, Maine — Mainers aren't afraid to face the cold to have fun. That's why the yurt and cabins on top of Shawnee Peak are so popular.
They are available year round, but you get a longer night if you rent them in the winter.
"A popular feature, whether you are staying in a yurt or in a cabin, is first tracks," said Rachel Wilkinson of Shawnee Peak. "You would ski down in the morning and meet our groomer. Our groomer would take you and a group of friends back up to the top of the hill."
Skiing corduroy is just part of the fun. The yurt sleeps four comfortably and is heated by a propane stove. Cook tops and cookware are provided, Guests just need to bring their own bedding.
Shawnee offers night skiing. The yurts sits just 150 yards off the trail.
Hikers have access to these unique on-trail accommodations in the summer.
