Rolling Stone shines spotlight on Portland's live music scene

There are many reasons to love the music scene in Maine, from the local talent to the affordable concert tickets. Now that's getting national attention.

PORTLAND, Maine — Whether you're at a venue like the State Theater or a local bar, live music is not hard to find. There are many reasons to love the music scene in Maine.

For these reasons and more, Portland is grabbing national attention, appearing recently in Rolling Stone for its "wildly ambitious music scene."

At the Halo recording studio in Windham, local artists like Xander Nelson say it's about time Portland got the spotlight for its music scene.

"A lot of these artists you can go see are tip-top and could be touring nationally," he explained. "You're paying $10 for a ticket. You can cozy up real close to the stage with a craft beer. It's an incredible value I gotta say."

In the article, published earlier this month, author Patrick Doyle calls Portland a "left-field surprise....drawing promoters from major cities and ambitious young songwriters."

"Here club owners love the music scene and they're willing to take chances on new artists," Nelson said. "There's something about Portland's music scene where everyone comes out to each other shows regardless of genre be at jazz or funk or rock or metal everyone shows up and everyone enjoys each other's work we all want to let each other out. I've never been to another place like that."
