No intoxicants found in cookies seized from daycare

Testing by the state crime lab found cookies that were given to daycare workers in Bangor to be free of controlled substances

BANGOR (NEWS CENTER Maine) — The cookies are off the hook as the cause of a sensation similar to intoxication that swept through the staff of a Bangor daycare center.

Bangor Police on Monday released the results of testing by the state crime lab which found the cookies to be free of controlled substances.

The cookies drew suspicion after several workers at Watch Me Shine daycare at Gilman Plaza in Bangor complained of feeling intoxicated on February 14. A parent had given the homemade cookies to the staff, and none were eaten by children.

The daycare contacted parents to explain the situation and closed for the rest of the day. The owner said outside food would no longer be allowed into Watch Me Shine as a result of the experience.

With the cookies cleared of blame, police said the cause of the staff's intoxication is unknown, and no charges are pending.
