Snow chances return | GUTNER BLOG

Some of the snow that melted during the week will be replaced on Friday night and Sunday morning

We are in an active pattern, but one that's not very prone for substantial snow...yet. Another weak system will slide through Friday evening. Temps will be marginal, so a mix of snow, rain and ice is likely. There won't be much precipitation with this one, but enough for slippery spots, especially inland through the night.

Saturday looks great, another taste of spring, with highs between 45-50 degrees. But another storm system approaches on Sunday. That one will be stronger and cold enough on the front end for snow. But like the storms preceding it, warmer air will work in and change snow to ice and rain. The transition will take a little longer, so snow amounts will be a little higher. Plows will be needed in many communities Sunday.

In the long term, the NAO Index is getting ready to tank for the first time in a while. A negative NAO signifies big-time blocking downstream from us.

This usually allows storms to slow and strengthen and can lead to increased chances for Nor'easters. We'll have to keep an eye on the Friday-to-Sunday timeframe for big storm potential.
