ORONO, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Maine men's basketball is hosting their annual Skip Chappelle scrimmage Saturday October 15 beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the Memorial Gym (The Pit). Admission is free for all fans to come see the 2016-17 Black Bears.

"The Skip Chappelle scrimmage is an important day for our program in two ways," said head coach Bob Walsh.

"It's really the first time we get a chance to compete in a full scrimmage after a couple of weeks of practice so it's a good barometer of the progress we are making as a team. But it's also a chance for our fans to see our new team on homecoming weekend in the Pit, and hopefully connect what we are doing to the great tradition of basketball in the state of Maine. There is no one who represents that tradition in our state better than Skip Chappelle."

Maine kicks off the 2016-17 season with a Meet the Bears event sponsored by Dominos and Select-A-Seat night on Oct. 25 at 6:00 p.m. at the Cross Insurance Center. On Oct. 29 the Black Bears begin the season with an exhibition contest against Husson University at the Cross Insurance Center.
