For one family, wrestling is in their genes

THORNDIKE, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - The Mount View High School has had four Fonger siblings take part in their wrestling program, including freshman twins Emma and Morgan Fonger.

"It's just kind of like a family sport because we have all done it," said Morgan Fonger.

Emma and Morgan have been wrestling since sixth grade. Their older brother and older sister also both wrestled at Mount View, and their older sister has even gone onto wrestle at the University of Maine.

Their parents Cindy and Jeff are at every meet to support their girls.

"We do travel to the tournaments and meets and there are long days," said Jeff Fonger.

Emma, Morgan, and their sister Sierra came in second last year in the 2017 girls high school wrestling states tournament. Emma was the 2017 125 pound girls state champion.

Although Emma and Morgan are the only girls on the Mount View team this year, they are not afraid to take on the boys.

"You're not really treated different I guess. Sometimes it's hard because the boys don't want to lose to a girl," said Emma Fonger.

Mount View Head Coach Hamilton Richards says the girls are a great asset to his team.

"Emma and Morgan are very well seasoned. They are very comfortable out there wrestling," said Richards. "They are also in weight classes where the girls tend to be pretty competitive. So I think it is working out well for them."
