Political Brew: Trump immigration remarks; naloxone sales; Medicaid work rules

John Richardson and Phil Harriman join NEWS CENTER Maine's Pat Callaghan to talk President Trump and Governor Paul LePage.

(NEWS CENTER Maine) -- On this week's edition of "Political Brew," NEWS CENTER's political analysts, Democrat John Richardson and Republican Phil Harriman find some common ground when it comes to inflammatory remarks about immigration from President Trump, and Gov. LePage's refusal so far to approve rules for over the counter sales of Naloxone.

But they disagree about imposing work rules on Medicaid recipients and spending taxpayer money for Maine's Clean Elections fund.

The state is expected to spend up to $11 million this year on funding certain political campaigns. Harriman says that's eleven million reasons not to use taxpayer dollars this way.

But Richardson believes it's a small price to pay for helping people run for office without being tied to big outside money.

As for new work rules for Medicaid recipients, Richardson feels it's an idea worth exploring as long as it doesn't go too far.

Harriman believes it's good public policy-- and good for beneficiaries too.

Political Brew is hosted by Pat Callaghan and airs during NEWS CENTER's Sunday Morning Report.
