Verify: Is President Trump's turnover unusual?

Donald Trump's White House has an estimated 43-percent turnover rate, according to new numbers from the Brookings Institute.

WASHINGTON, DC - Almost half of President Trump's front-line White House staff have resigned or been fired, according to new numbers from the Brookings Institute.

The numbers come days after Trump fired Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.

Few members of an administration last a full term. Many go on to higher-paying jobs that involve less stress and shorter hours.

But how unusual is it for an administration to have a high turnover rate?

Comparing the Last Five Presidents

The Brookings Institute compared the turnover rates of the last five presidents based on publicly available statistics.

Researchers found Ronald Regan had a 17-percent turnover rate in his first year in office.

George Bush, Sr. only had a 7-percent turnover rate.

Bill Clinton lost 11 percent of his staff in his first year.

George Bush, Jr. had only 6 percent of his staff depart the White House, and Barack Obama had 9-percent turnover in his first year.

But Donald Trump's White House dwarfs them all, with an estimated 43-percent turnover rate.

So we can verify, based on historical precedent, that the Trump White House has by far the highest staff turnover in 30 years.
