PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The City of Portland announced they have settled a lawsuit with Maine Department of Health and Human Services over reimbursement of General Assistance funds.
Officials announced Tuesday afternoon that the city and Maine DHHS had come to an agreement that would allow the city to receive the $1.3 million dollars of Maine GA funds.
Maine DHHS agreed to file a stipulation of dismissal, which essentially dismisses the appeal.
The lawsuit included assistance payments to the city between mid-June 2014 through February 2015.
“We’re extremely pleased that we can put this matter behind us now. Reaching this mutual settlement with DHHS allows the City to recoup almost all of the reimbursement monies we were owed, and put an end to the costly legal proceedings,” said Portland City Manager Jon Jennings.
