CALAIS, Maine (NEWS CENTER) — Lori Ellis has been an English teacher at Calais High School for the past 28 years.
She attended Calais schools herself, so she knew it would be the perfect fit. Since starting her career she has always made a point to take her students learning outside of the classroom. This is done by the numerous fundraisers she has her students complete throughout the year for local organizations.
"The kids that I have this year alone have raised close to $10,000," Ellis said.
She wants to make sure that her students are aware of their civil and social responsibilities. Organizing these fundraisers and giving back to the community is how she is teaching her students to do so.
"It’s a joy working with those kids," Ellis said. "I don’t plan on retiring anytime soon, I like it too much."
