BUCKFIELD, Maine (NEWS CENTER) — Gretchen Kimball has only been teaching science at Buckfield Jr-Sr High School for three years, but she says it has been a great three years.

"I've taught reading and writing for probably 10 years," Kimball said. "The last three I've taught science; because of funding, we had to cut out some teachers. Our middle wing didn't have a science teacher…I volunteered. I love science and it's been really fun."

Kimball's attitude shows that it doesn't matter what subject she is teaching, she has a passion for her profession and is there for the students. She tries to get them out of the classroom as much as possible by utilizing the school garden and greenhouse.

Kimball hopes her students not only leave her classroom with knowledge in science but also knowledge in life.

"I hope that they have strengthened their reading, writing and thinking skills," Kimball said. "I hope they can analyze and use the knowledge that they've learned in practical ways to understand their world."
