WATERBORO, Maine (NEWS CENTER) — David Pope is a science teacher at Massabesic Middle School, and he has inspired his students to think twice about throwing away food at lunch.

Students now compost all their food waste. They put lunch scraps in green buckets and transport it to the school's compost pile be used later to grow more food in the school's garden.

Mr. Pope's program is being used as a model by Maine legislators who want to try composting in other schools around the state.
