Larry LaChance volunteers with the SEARCH, which serves seniors 60 and older in Androscoggin County. He heard of the program one morning in church when the priest shared that SEARCH was in need for volunteers.

SEARCH, or Seek, Elderly Alone, Renew, Courage, and Hope, matches a volunteer with a senior to provide companionship, help with errands and to help with transportation. The goal is to give the senior independence to stay in their home as long as possible.

Larry has volunteered with search for 36 years and has been apart of the growth and the difficult times. He's served on the advisory committee, has been matched with a senior for 19 years, and he's now matched with another senior.

"I think I give them a sense of continuing on not to get discourage that I will be there as long as I can and they can reach me anytime," said LaChance.

He said volunteering has expanded his horizons and shown him there are no limits to what someone can accomplish.

He also attends senior fairs, volunteer fairs and United Way meetings to promote the program.

Congratulations Larry LaChance, a 2014 6 Who Care Award winner.
