6 Who Care: Al Ragucci

For 28 years, Al Ragucci has been a volunteer helping to create the magic at Camp Sunshine, a retreat for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families on Sebago Lake in Casco, Maine.

When the local Eagle Bass Master fishermen bring their boats to take the campers out on the lake to fish, it’s Al, with his clipboard in hand, organizing all the children for their angling adventure. With the help of Al, more than 10,000 ill children and their families have been able to enjoy the wonders of fishing.

For some, this is the first and only time they will go fishing. Al brings a smile to their face when he reminds the rookie fishermen to kiss their first catch before they throw it back into the lake.

You will also find Al on hand at one of the camp’s longest running fundraisers: Monte Carlo Game Night. Al’s dedication and love for Camp Sunshine has motivated him to recruit over 6,000 volunteers and help raise over $500,000 at the casino night.

A Navy veteran with a hardworking and humble attitude, Al Ragucci is always willing to put forth the extra effort to make sure each and every child and family member attending Camp Sunshine has the best experience possible.
