CARIBOU (NEWS CENTER Maine) -- A 13-year-old middle school student in Caribou has been charged after leaving a written bomb threat in one of the bathrooms, police say.

Law enforcement responded to Caribou Middle School Tuesday after receiving a complaint from school officials. Police met with them and took the evidence from the scene.

The investigation led police to a 13-year-old boy, who has been charged with class D terrorizing and referred to juvenile probation, police said. He has since been released to his parents.

"At no time were any students or staff in danger, with the quick action by the School Administration and the collaboration with the Caribou Police this incident was proven to be false," Caribou Police said in a press release. "Unfortunately we live in a world where some people do and say things just to see what would happen, but we all know that bad things do happen in this world."

Police also stressed the importance of reporting any suspicious activity, with, "If you See Something, Say Something.”

"Tell a teacher, parent or just someone that you trust, but tell someone, maybe bad things can be stopped before they happen."
