Police make arrest blocks away from robbed Subway

A man reported to be acting suspiciously on a Westbrook street is accused by police of robbing a nearby Subway shop minutes earlier

WESTBROOK (NEWS CENTER Maine) -- The distance amounted to only a few blocks between the Subway shop where a robbery occurred and the place where police made an arrest in the case.

Police said a man with a knife ran off with the money he stole from the Subway at 716 Bridgton Rd. in Westbrook around 6:47 p.m. on Saturday.

Another report soon reached police of a man acting suspiciously near 745 Bridgton Rd. That's where officers found 50-year-old Charles Small from Gray, who also goes by the first name Kelly.

Through their interaction with Small, police said his connection to the Subway robbery became apparent. They arrested Small on a charge of robbery and sent him to Cumberland County Jail.
