WATERVILLE, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- 180 miles, three days, all for a good cause. The final leg of the 32nd annual Trek Across Maine took off early Sunday morning at Colby College in Waterville.
This year about 2,000 people are making the trek with the help of nearly 750 volunteers.
The three day event starts at Sunday River Ski Resort, stops at the University of Maine in Farmington, at Colby College and ends in Belfast.
This year riders can take part in a two-day ride option as well.
The annual event raises money and awareness for lung disease and the American Lung Association
This year they are expected to raise about 1.65 million dollars. To date, they have raised more than $24 million.
"It's important to us to have the awareness, people hearing about our cause but also the funds that are raised for research and education advocacy are critically important to our mission" said Jeff Seyler, CEO of the American Lung Association of the Northeast.
