MILLINOCKET (NEWS CENTER Maine) -- Workers in Millinocket finally got an answer to their years of prayers for a revival of the wood product industry.

LignaCLT Maine, LLC unveiled its plans for the town on Tuesday. The company said it will employ about 100 workers to make Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) at the long idle mill owned by Our Katahdin, Inc.

CLT is a wood product strong enough to be used as an alternative to concrete and steel. In addition to providing new jobs, LignaCLT said the economy will also benefit through increased demand for Maine lumber.

The company set a goal of 12 months to get the facility operational with a timeline of five years to achieve full staffing.
