(NEWS CENTER) — NEWS CENTER would like to thank all who were involved in the second annual Honor Flight Maine Telethon.

With your help, tens of thousands of dollars were raised, providing scores of Maine veterans the opportunity to join their fellow comrades in a tour of the war memorials in Washington D.C.

Generous donors and pledges helped raise $141,133 for the 2017 Honor Flight Maine Telethon, enough to send at least 201 veterans to our nation's capital.

Honor Flight Maine heads to D.C.

Donors helped raised $138,000 in 2016 for the inaugural Honor Flight Maine Telethon.

Honor Flight Maine is a nonprofit solely created to transport Maine veterans to Washington D.C. for tours of the memorials built in their honor. Honor Flight Maine took its first veterans to D.C. in May 2014 and since then has taken thousands of Maine men and women on a trip of a lifetime.

A Maine veteran keeps serving, but now in a different way

It takes $700 to send a veteran roundtrip with Honor Flight Maine. Airfare ($300) and lodging ($275) make up the bulk of the cost.

Maine veterans who want the chance to tour the D.C. war memorials can apply at Honor Flight Maine. Veterans are chosen on a first come, first served basis.Guardians can fill out an online application for veterans if they choose.
